The traditional Bossel and Kale Event
with an intermediate Stop in Amerika
„Bosseln“ (roadbowling) is considered to be a sports
event which is predominantly performed on small in the northwestern
and coastal regions of the German Republic and in Ireland country
roads where two or more teams are facing each other in the bossel
competition. Each team has one hard rubber ball with a weight of
600 gramms. After the selection of the names and the sequence of
the “throwers”, as the players are called, and the first thrower
starts to roll the ball along the road for the longest distance
possible. The next thrower starts at the dead point of the previous
ball etc… The team that crosses the target line after 5 or 10 km
with the least number of attempts is the winner.
This years event programme of Friendship Force Varel began
with the traditional Bossel and Kale-Event in Friedeburg on February
19th 2011.
At the meeting point in front of the restaurant Oltmanns in Friedeburg
the club members and our young friends from Friendship Force Prague,
Regina and Voitech, Andrea and Petr, were welcome by last years
and acting Kale Queen and King. Our guest from Prag had already
arrived the day before and confirmed afterwards that they had enjoyed
an unforgettable weekend. May be in one of these days we will have
such an event at Prague, who knows!?
In very cold but partly sunny weather we performed the Bosseln activity
for approximately 3 hours. During the action there in order to heat
up at least a little from the inside a reason was always found to
break for a sip of clear or coloured schnapps, which
is produced in the city of Friedeburg,. About half way we arrived
in Amerika a very comfortable recreation point with
a very famous name but located in Friesland, Germany. This opportunity
was welcomed by everybody as chance to relax and warm up especially
as cake and bread with schmaltz as well as coffee and tea was served.
Thereafter the tour led us back to the Oltmanns restaurant for the
kale meal.
