Friendship Force Osaka visits Friendship
Force Varel
from September 10th to 16th 2009
After having spent a week in Vogtland (Saxony/Germany), our Japanese
guests were welcomed by their hosts at Oldenburg main station. Thereafter
they were taken to the families for an initial getting to know each
other.
For the following day a visit of the town Varel had been planned.
It began with a reception by the deputy mayor Peter Nieraad in the
Town Hall, after which the guests walked to listen to the carillon
accompanied by the traditional Friesland Löffeltrunk. Needless
to say that they were rather impressed. Afterwards Varels
Castle Church was visited. Information in English about Christian
religions and the history of the church were given.
After lunch during a short stop at Varels harbour, a shrimp
cutter was coincidentally berthing. Since the guests showed interest
in shelling the shrimps they were immediately shown the technique,
its imitation being supervised by the fishermen made them all buy
some.
The day led on to Wilhelmshaven to see the chocolate factory
for Japanese guests an almost heavenly experience.
On the following day the hosts took their guests to Bremen. During
the sightseeing of the manifold sights of the city it turned out
that the guests knew well the story of the Town Band of Bremen.
The Park of Gardens in Rostrup with its magnificent flowers and
trees pleased our guests immensely. Afterwards everybody enjoyed
a fantastic barbecue at family Jeddelohs beautiful estate.
An Oldenburg-day followed next. After the visit to the Lamberti
Church the chance was taken to see the bicycle-museum. The following
typically Southern-German dinner (knuckle of pork with pickled cabbage)
once again impressed the guests.
At our farewell party on the last evening we celebrated with our
guests in Dangast and everybody enjoyed the Japanese as well as
the German entertainment programme before their official Good Bye.
The next morning meant saying a final good-bye to our guests who
went on to Berlin for two days before flying back to Osaka via Paris.
At a farewell gift we also received an invitation by the exchange
leader Yoshihiko Morimoto to visit Osaka.
