Friendship Force Varel visited Szekesfehervar
(Hungary)
From July 26th to August 1st 2008 fifteen well tempered
ambassadors from Friendship Force Varel were hosted by the Hungarian
Friendship Force Club at Szekesfehervar – the city of the Kings
located half way between Budapest and Lake Balaton. Supported by
the bright sunshine the hosts had moved heaven and earth to offer
a condensed view into the Hungarian way of life to their guests.
The visitors could feel at any time the presence of a legitimate
pride of their hosts about the achievements since the opening towards
the Western world:
• for example during the reception of the young well trained
Vice Mayor of the city
• or during the visit of a Brandy Distillery equipped to the
most modern standard
• or during the guided tour through the Parliament and the
St. Stefan Basilica at Budapest
• and especially during the times in the tidy houses of the
host families who welcomed
• their guests open hearted spoiling
them with tasty fruits freshly harvested from their
• gardens. What a difference to
the cooled supermarket products in Northern
• Germany!
Dipping into Lake Balaton for a refreshing swim was as compulsory
as the various stops at the street traders along the road and on
the markets of the little communities.
The Classic Summer Concert of the “Harmonia Albensis”
series with international stars of the opera world will remain an
unforgettable highlight for the visitors.
After the week of family hosting the group stayed at the thermal
bath of Heviz in Hungaria for a couple of days for relaxation and
the birthday celebration of a member of the travelling party. After
they had driven about 4000 km the ambassadors returned safe and
sound to their homes in Varel.
