Standing ovations and “encore and more” calls characterize
the reactions of the national and international guests at the public
benefit concert of the Varel Gospel Choire and the The Old Mary
Town Jazz Band from Jever at the Castle Church in Varel. This event
was also part of the opening ceremony of the European Conference
of Friendship Force International 2010. After Cyprus in 2006 and
and Bratislava in 2008 the Friendship Force Club Varel had invited
the 80 European Clubs to the Conference at the Hotel Friesenhof
from May 7th to 9th 2010.
Under the patronage of the Mayor of the city of Varel, Gerd-Christian
Wagner, the conference agenda was dedicated to the subject of “Public
awareness and appearance of Friendship Force in the future”. The
President of Friendship Force International from Atlanta (Georgia,
USA), George Brown and representatives of clubs from 10 different
European Nations attended the presentations, exchanged experiences,
contributed to the discussions and were very content with the result
of the conference. The formal closing ceremony was the official
handover of the management responsibility for the European Conference
2012 to Friendship Force Budapest (Hungary).
The dinner banquet with show programme and dance, which was opened
by the official representative of the Frisian county, Mr. Sven Ambrosy,
became a further highlight of the event. The performance of a children’s
dance group “Dansmüüs” underlined the future
ambitions of Friendship Force Varel whilst the Varel Shanty Choire
“De Freesn ut Varel” and the “folk dance group from
Jever” and “Sally’s Crew” demonstrated the local
and regional integration of the club.

All the delegates expressed their contentedness about the organisation
and the environment which formed a suitable frame for a successful
conference. The guests and the delegates were pleased by the interesting
additional programme like visits and sightseeing trips happening
in parallel to the conference and a lot of them talked about coming
back to the city of Varel and the region very soon.
Nachbetrachtung des 1. Vorsitzenden von Friendship Force
Varel zur Europakonferenz:
Die Friendship Force Europakonferenz vom 7. bis 9. Mai 2010 in Varel
ist Geschichte. Nachdem unserem Verein vor 2 Jahren die Ausrichtung
der Konferenz übertragen wurde, waren sich der Vorstand
und die Mitglieder bewusst, dass eine große Aufgabe vor uns
lag.
Es wurde sehr bald eine Arbeitsgruppe gebildet, die mit zunehmender
Dauer der Vorbereitungen immer mehr erweitert wurde und das
Konzept der Arbeitsgruppe sah vor, den Schwerpunkt der Konferenz
dahingehend zu sehen, dass möglichst viele Möglichkeiten
aufgezeigt werden sollten, wie den bestehenden Problemen der Friendship-Force-Organisation und ihrer Vereine begegnet werden könnte
und wie die großartige Idee von Friendship Force weiter verbreitet
werden kann.
Die aufgezeigten Probleme wurden von den Teilnehmern in einer fairen
und harmonischen Atmosphäre dargestellt und diskutiert und
mein Eindruck ist, dass viele Gedanken und Vorschläge weiterverfolgt
werden. Der Konferenzleitung unseres Vereins sowie dem Präsidenten
von FFI, George Brown, danke ich herzlich für ihre konstruktiven
Beiträge aber auch den Konferenzteilnehmern wird für viele
gute Vorschläge Dank gesagt.
Es war für unseren Verein sehr wichtig, neben der Konferenzarbeit
auch die Möglichkeit zu nutzen, Varel und die Region vorzustellen.
Wie hätte das besser geschehen können, als örtlichen
und regionalen Vereinen die Möglichkeit einzuräumen, ihr
Können zu beweisen!

Den Auftakt bildete das Konzert des Vareler Gospelchores und der
Old Marytown Jazz Band in der Vareler Schlosskirche. Wir haben viel
begeisterte Zustimmung erfahren und selbst, wenn vielleicht mal
irgendwo ein Rotweinfleck entstanden ist, der vorher nicht dort
war, die Freude und Begeisterung über das Konzert dürfte
weit überwiegen!
Bei dem Festabend am Sonnabend waren andere Vereine bereit, unser
Anliegen zu unterstützen. Ich denke da an die Kindergruppe
„De Danzmüüs“ des Heimatvereins Varel mit dem
wunderschönen Tanz der "Vogelhochzeit". Ich denke
weiter an den stimmungsvollen Auftritt des Shantychores „De
Freesen ut Varel“, zu dem wir eine langjährige Bindung
haben und die schwungvollen Darbietungen der Volkstanzgruppe
aus Jever, die auch schon eine Austauschreise mit unserem Verein
unternommen hat. Ich bin überzeugt, dass es für viele
überraschend kam, dass neben der Vorbereitung auf die Konferenz
eine Musikgruppe von Friendship Force Varel, „Sally`s
Crew“ noch die Zeit gefunden hat, einen speziellen musikalischen
Beitrag vorzubereiten und zu präsentieren.
Zusammenfassend möchte ich feststellen, dass die Konferenz
mit ihrem Rahmenprogramm sehr gut verlaufen ist und eine Werbung
für Friendship Force mit Langzeitwirkung sein kann.
Ich möchte meine Nachbetrachtung nicht schließen, ohne
allen Beteiligten und Helfern ein herzliches Dankeschön zu
sagen.

Rundum gelungen
Die Europakonferenz in Varel bewerte ich als ausgesprochen erfolgreich.
Die Organisatoren der Veranstaltung haben unter Beweis gestellt,
wie harmonisch eine Konferenz gestaltet werden kann. Besonders hervorzuheben
ist der sehr stimmungsvolle Gospel- und Jazzabend in der Vareler
Schlosskirche, der vielen unter die Haut ging. Aber auch die konstruktiven
Diskussionen um die zukünftige Arbeit auf den Vereinsebenen
waren ein Gewinn. Wie viel Freude eine Veranstaltung bringen kann,
erlebten dann alle Teilnehmer beim Bankett am Samstag. Die Gäste
der Veranstaltung haben ein positives Bild der Aktivitäten
und der Leistungsfähigkeit des Vareler Vereins erleben dürfen.
Allen Akteuren sei von hier aus nochmals gedankt. Es war eine Werbung
für Varel, die nicht bezahlbar ist!

What a weekend, weather terrible, wind, rain, cold - but ..... Joy
– friends, we had not seen for a long time, new faces we were
meeting and again, the feeling of being part of the big international
family of Friendship Force. The rain and the bitter cold wind seems
not to exist anymore - the warmth of friendship was stronger!
Starting Friday night in the old Castle church – a Gospel choir
which made our souls fly with the notes, a jazz band with their
singer Sheila, wonderful – and then – both together –
WOW – George Brown our CEO was wondering, if we would end up
in the Hofbräuhaus – being in Church – but we did not
– we were just happy and relaxed. Watching Nikolay Kravchenko
from Lugansk (Ukraine) showed us once again how easy music can connect
people.
High spirits at the banquet
Saturday the seriousness of conference settled in, the participants
were interested and during lunch expressed their views. In the afternoon
more discussions and at the end of the day – a grand buffet
dinner and a firework of entertainments. I wanted to book that new
FF boy group, but unfortunately they had no agent yet, what a pity
– maybe we could see them again at the World Conference in
Hamburg 2011???
Sunday – drive around Varel and to the Jadebusen – Low
tide – we saw the famous mud flats – Mother’s day lunch
– Great!
Conclusion: fun – business – work – and friendship
at his highest. Well done FF Varel!

Meine Meinung, meine Eindrücke:
Ich selber kann als Eindruck wiedergeben,
dass noch sehr viel Potenzial in FF steckt, welches wir langfristig
nutzen müssen/können, um neue (auch jüngere) Mitglieder
zu gewinnen . Ich war schon beeindruckt, wie familiär es zuging
und wie viele Menschen sich bereits seit Jahren kannten. Ich hatte
zeitweise das Gefühl, ich befinde mich in einem großen
Familientreffen. Die Konferenz wurde mit so viel Liebe zum Detail
ausgerichtet (Tischschilder, Taschen, Konzert mit Weinausschank)
– sie wurde nicht einfach nur ausgerichtet. Ich habe ja keine
Vergleichsmöglichkeiten, aber ich als Gast wäre beeindruckt
gewesen, wenn ich extra angereist wäre (... ich war auch so
beeindruckt). Mir hat die Konferenz viel gebracht – vor allem
Ideen! Die Energie, die Ihr in die Planung gesteckt habt, muss spürbar
sein auch für andere - es muss der Eindruck entstehen –
bei Friendship Force bewegt sich was!!! Ich bin gerne dabei!

Wir möchten uns bei Euch herzlich für alles in Varel
bedanken
Wir haben bei Euch viel Schönes erlebt und viel Interessantes gesehen.
Es ist eine große Freude, dass wir Euch samt vielen netten Menschen
in der Konferenz kennenlernen konnten. Wir hoffen, dass Ihr einmal
nach Ungarn kommt und uns besucht. Wir freuen uns auf das Treffen
mit Euch und den Konferenzteilnehmern 2012 bei uns in Ungarn. Wir
hatten nämlich in Varel auch die Möglichkeit, Ideen und Erfahrungen
zu sammeln.
Zur Abschlussfeier haben uns z.B.: eure schönen Volkstänze und -lieder
beeindruckt.
Ich persönlich habe den Ausflug nach Papenburg sehr genossen. Die
Werftarbeiten liegen weit von mir, für mich war sehr interessant
mitzuerleben, wie ein Luxusschiff gebaut wird.
Wir würden uns sehr freuen, mit Euch in Kontakt bleiben zu können.

Today I can find a few minutes to write you a letter.
First of all I must say great thanks for your hospitality. It was
so interesting, so beautiful, so incredible...!!!
I was very surprised because I found so many friends and of course
it was very nice to meet with you. I hope your club decides to visit
us in future. We'll be glad to see you anytime.
My wife asked me when I arrived home was the conference boring me?
– And I told her of course not, it was very interesting and
gaily. Next time I'll go to the conference without thinking and
I will take her with me.
I can't find so many warm words in the English language to relay
my feelings after the conference and especially for your hospitality.
