A group of youth from
Friendship Force Varel departed to the USA
Global Food Security is the agenda headline
2011 of the International Youth Exchange Programme of Friendship
Force. This year the Global Youth Institute (GYI) will convene in
Des Moines (Iowa/USA) from July 3rd to 22nd 2011.
On July 2nd their parents and the Honorary President of Friendship
Force Varel said good bye to the group of 8 from the greater area
of Varel at the Bremen-Airport. From there the trip will go via
Paris and Detroit to Des Moines, the economic centre of the Middle
West, approximately a one hour flight from Chicago.
There they will meet the other participants from China, Taiwan,
Russia and the USA and will firstly be home hosted by American families,
before they actually start their programme at the American Independence
Day on 4th of July.
During the intensive home preparation phase at many meetings led
by Kerstin Suhren and Horst Neumann the group from Varel developed
a country-report to present their Nation from various
aspects and they got themselves ready for the discussion of the
agenda headline Global Food Security. In addition tours
to Chicago and into the greater vicinity will be completing this
interesting exchange.

Eight girls and boys from the Varel region will be
representing Germany at an International Friendship Force Youth
Meeting in the USA during the summer of this year. The Global Youth
Institute (GYI) will be convened for the 21st time and students
from Varel have been participating 15 times it is a little
anniversary.
The local Friendship Force Club in cooperation with the Public School
of Des Moines, Iowa invites approximately 40 young people of the
age between 16 and 18 from the global Friendship Force family to
this 3 week programme.
This years main theme Global Food Security matches
perfectly with the mainly agricultural character of the inviting
country Iowa in the Midwest of the USA. Considering the recent German
scandal with respect to dioxin in the general food chain this theme
gets additional actuality.
